Third Installment in SMWS Creators’ Collection Revealed: ‘Whispers of Spring’

Four rare aged whiskies showcasing seasonal renewal continue innovative whisky series

The Scotch Malt Whisky Society (SMWS) has announced the release of ‘Whispers of Spring: A journey of reawakening’ (£1,144), the third instalment in its acclaimed Creators Collection, featuring four exceptionally aged whiskies matured to evoke the Spring months with lighter floral, citrus and vanilla notes.

Available to members from late April, the collection showcases rare expressions aged between 27 and 35 years, each matured in refill wood to highlight the distilleries’ distinctive characters without overwhelming wood influence.

The Creators Collection is a new series from the international whisky club that brings liquid storytelling to life with rare aged whiskies curated to create the ultimate whisky flights. Each instalment focuses on a unique flavour story, whisky production technique or cask maturation, with further releases planned later this year.

SMWS head of whisky creation Euan Campbell said: “Sometimes it's fun to explore the technical and process side of whisky, and sometimes it's best to let the whisky take you to a time and place and simply revel in sheer enjoyment. Our Whispers of Spring bottles do just that.”

The collection features:

  • Cask No. 50.120: Dawn's Embrace (£325) - A 34-year-old ultra small-batch whisky at 53.4% abv, offering delicate oak, vanilla and honeyed sweetness. Originally scattered across 13 casks with low volumes, the spirit was vatted and consolidated into five barrels for extended maturation.

  • Cask No. 94.51: Verdant Reawakening (£199) - A 27-year-old from Distillery 94, known for its unique cooling ring process. At 55.8% abv, this Sweet, Fruity & Mellow profile whisky presents complex grassy notes, citrus zest and sweetness.

  • Cask No. 72.125: Blossom Reverie (£245) - A Light & Delicate 29-year-old at 49.6% abv, described as "a heavenly mix of golden syrup, honeycomb and milk chocolate biscuits" with lime and chamomile notes.

  • Cask No. 105.55: Crepuscular Complexity (£375) - The rarest of the collection with only 122 bottles available, this 35-year-old whisky is 46.2% abv. The Sweet, Fruity & Mellow dram offers notes of “old Riesling, calvados, peaches and cream” with “spiced oranges in syrup” on the palate.

This release continues the Creators Collection which was launched in November 2024 with ‘Peat Plants: The essence of Scotland’s untamed landscapes’, a collection of four bottlings representing different aspects of Scotland's peatlands from Islay through Aberdeenshire to the Orkney Islands. This was followed by January’s Creators Collection “Homecoming: The essence of heritage with Shona Hardie,” which celebrated the Society’s spiritual home at The Vaults in Leith.
